Terms of Service
Draft — not yet in force. The values highlighted like this are unresolved and must be filled in, and the whole set needs a lawyer's review, before these pages are linked from the product or relied on by an ethics committee. Until then this page describes intended practice, not a binding commitment.
These terms cover use of Workframe by researchers. By signing in and using the product you agree to them.
Workframe is currently a supervised pilot. Accounts are added by hand, there is no self-serve signup, and the pilot terms below reflect that — including the absence of a paid plan and of an uptime commitment.
1. Who we are, and who may use this
Workframe is operated by [legal entity name]. You may use it if you are a researcher whose account we have enabled, you are at least 18, and you have authority to accept these terms for yourself or your institution.
2. What the service is
Workframe lets you build branching scenario-based studies, publish a fixed version of one, embed it in a survey you run elsewhere, and export the resulting data. Published versions are immutable by design: publishing again creates a new version rather than altering one that participants may already have seen.
During the pilot we may change, add or withdraw features. For a change that would break a live study, we will contact affected accounts first.
3. Your responsibilities
- Ethics and lawfulness. You are responsible for approvals your research needs, for your lawful basis, and for informing participants. Workframe presents no consent form or privacy notice to participants for you.
- Your content. You are responsible for what your studies contain and for holding the rights to media you upload.
- Identifiers. Identifier fields store what you send, verbatim, and it appears in your export. Pass study-scoped pseudonymous IDs rather than names or email addresses.
- Participant welfare. Do not use Workframe for studies designed to deceive participants in ways your ethics board has not approved, or to cause them harm or distress.
- Your account. Keep your sign-in secure and tell us promptly if it is compromised. You are responsible for activity under your account.
- No abuse. Do not attempt to breach or probe the service or other accounts, reverse-engineer it, resell access, or use it to store data unrelated to running a study.
4. Who owns what
You keep everything you bring: your studies, your uploaded media, and your participant data. We claim no ownership over them and no licence to use them beyond what is needed to run the service for you — hosting, delivery, backup — as set out in the Data Processing Agreement. We do not use your studies or your data to train models.
We keep everything we bring: the software, the interface, the name and the documentation.
Media you publish is stored by content hash and may be shared, as a stored object, between studies that contain identical media. This is a storage optimisation only: it gives no one access to your study or its data, and an object is never deleted while any study still references it.
5. Export and deletion
You can export any dataset as CSV or JSON, in full, at any time. You can delete a study or your entire account from within the product; both take effect immediately and cannot be undone. Deleting your account also erases the sign-in identity held by our authentication provider.
6. Availability, and the pilot's limits
We give no uptime commitment during the pilot. We aim for continuous availability and will tell you about planned interruptions, but there is no SLA and no service credit.
Because a live data-collection run cannot be repeated, treat a launch as you would any single-shot instrument: run one participant end to end first, and export your data regularly rather than treating Workframe as its only home.
7. Fees
The pilot is free. We will not begin charging an existing account without at least [notice period] notice and an opportunity to export everything and leave.
8. Ending it
You may stop at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or end your access if you materially break these terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the product — in the last case with [notice period] notice and time to export. We will not delete your data on termination without giving you a reasonable chance to export it first, except where a serious breach or a legal obligation requires otherwise.
9. Disclaimers and liability
The service is provided as is during the pilot, without warranties beyond those the law does not allow us to exclude. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of data or of research findings, to the extent the law permits that exclusion. Our total liability is capped at [cap — note that "fees paid" is not a meaningful cap while the pilot is free, so a fixed figure is needed].
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
10. General
We may update these terms; for a material change we will notify account holders before it takes effect, and continuing to use Workframe afterwards means accepting it. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. These terms are governed by [governing law] and subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of [courts].
